Contains my absolute favorite fictional character of all time... Elphaba. The story is a gripping read and much different from the musical, if you've seen it. Clever to put a new spin on such a timeless character, who in and of herself embodied an archetype, Maguire manages to challenge all of the reader's assumptions and expectations. The philosophical and historical discourse on the nature of evil and who decides what is moral/immoral is priceless. One of the few books I've re-read many times over.
